Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released on May 5, 2017, and has already grossed over $440 million in total sales. With the movie being less than a week into its release, it’s time to talk about the pros and the cons of this cinematic experience.

To begin, Vol. 2 tells the story of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, who runs into his father after the events of the first film. Although Peter is overjoyed at the fact of meeting his dad, who’s a PLANET (celestial being) by the way, things don’t turn out as planned. After many obstacles and with the help of an old foe, the Guardians of the Galaxy are able to escape the clutches of evil yet again.

The many positive aspects of this movie helped contribute to its success. The CGI and special effects were phenomenal, making everything from baby Groot to the planets look life-like. The fighting sequences were fast paced, action packed, and had great choreography. The acting was out of this world, every interaction between the characters seemed genuine and unscripted. The jokes and comedic scenes left the entire theater laughing to the point of tears. The designs of the characters, such as Mantis, Nebula and The High Priestess, had us in awe as they not only looked magnificent, but were designed according to the plot and the setting of the film.

However, there were also cons to the movie as well. Some of the comedy seemed forced. out of place, and not fit for the scene in which it takes place. The resolution to Peter’s relationship with Gamora felt unsatisfying and lackluster. The space suits felt like slapstick comedy, mimicking the appearance of bubble wrap. The movie wasn’t as stellar as the first one. There was a lot less comedy and a lot more tragedy, which made it feel like something other than a Marvel movie.

Overall, the film is definitely worth watching. It had plenty of fun moments and action sequences, which made it an absolute joy to watch. If you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or just looking for a good time, then this movie is perfect for you.
