FRISCO, TEXAS – A new school year is yet another chance for new clubs to pop up. Broadcast club is one of the many unique clubs part of the club fair this school year.
Founded in 2021, it’s a club meant for creative individuals interested in aspects of multimedia production, such as video editing, filmmaking, photography, journalism, etc. to gather and work on honing these skill sets.
Senior Prasanna Bendalam, president of the Broadcast Club, shared more insight into the goal of the Broadcast Club.
“The goal is just to give everyone a place where they can come and make fun videos, pictures…we understand that academics are really important here at Centennial, so we wanna give a place where you don’t have to worry about your grades and can just make fun videos,” Bendalam said.
The club members meet twice a month on the first and third Wednesday of the month. The last meeting was on Oct. 16.
Prasanna Bendalam shared more about what members can expect from meetings.
“We will have photography workshops, working on framing and color grading, all that stuff, writing workshops, basic journalism and how to do that kind of writing, video workshops..,” Bendalam said.
There are endless opportunities to learn from experienced individuals in the club. From writing tips and workshops from one of the Editor-in-Chiefs of the Titan Times, Treasurer of the Broadcast club, senior Medha Shah, to photography tips from junior Yuchen Qing, secretary of the Broadcast club.
“We’ll be doing writing workshops, and I’ll teach journalism basics like writing leads and formatting stories. Also, if members are interested in doing journalism UIL, then they can reach out to me,” Shah said.
In addition to script writing and journalism writing, video creation and photography are also being incorporated into the club. Senior Dhruv Gurumukhi, vice-president of the Broadcast Club chimed in on video editing techniques that members can expect at future meetings.
“[We’ll be] hosting VFX workshops over things like Adobe After Effects and Blender and stuff like that… [people] can ask me questions about anything like photography, videography because I do pretty much everything, honestly,” Gurumukhi said.
There are many benefits to being a club member as well: from flexible hours to learning new and valuable skills like photography and filmmaking. Bendalam expanded on some of the benefits.
“I’d say the best part is just seeing people having a good time. Videos are something that bring people together,” Bendalam said. “We also have UIL competitions, some regional competitions that we will be doing, and as well as some national competitions that we are looking to do in the spring.”
If you’re interested in the Broadcast club, their next meeting is on Nov. 6. Any questions about the club can be directed to [email protected].
