FRISCO TEXAS — Centennial is home to over twenty curricular and non-curricular clubs. One lesser-recognized club is our robotics team, which currently houses 85 members, 13 of which are on the competitive team. The Robotics club is in its first year of operation and has been in the works unofficially since last May.
Led by team captain, Krish Vadviel, the club focuses on teaching its non-competitive members all things robotics while simultaneously preparing the current team for upcoming contests. At the club’s bi-weekly meetings, you can expect to learn about the four different divisions of robotics: CAD, build, programming, and outreach. Each meeting features stations led by the division sub-captains to prepare members equally in all areas.
CAD focuses on the robot’s design plans, build focuses on putting the robot together and its hardware, programming focuses on implementing the electrical components into the team robot, and outreach focuses on interactions outside the club. All the divisions work together to create a robot for the main challenge of the competitive season.
“For the club, we want… to get all the actual club members accustomed to whatever they want to do. For example, if they want to learn CAD we want them to have fundamental knowledge of CAD so they can compete. We want to build up knowledge for the club members,” CAD Sub-Captain, Nikhil Kalakada explained.
The Robotics club regularly competes at meets and offers many new experiences to its members this way. The competitive team has recently placed fifth out of 35 teams in a past contest; they’ve also been able to network with other successful Texas robotics teams and form new connections. If the team continues to see success they have the opportunity to advance in tournaments from regionals all the way to worlds.
“I think people should join because of the vast amount of opportunities you get with robotics, not only do you get to go through the entire process and learn how everything works; but a big part of it is also networking and meeting new people and new teams… you gain a lot of new experience, you get to meet so many new people, and best of all you get to have fun!” Team Captain Krish Vadivel shared. The club hopes to continue growing next year and has many plans.
