FRISCO, TEXAS — In an exhilarating display of skill, determination, and teamwork, the Centennial High School tennis team has once again served up a 5A state win, solidifying its reputation. This victory marks the second consecutive state title for the team, an impressive victory that underscores its dedication and talent.
This season was marked by standout moments, including a nail-biting opening district match against Independence, ranked second in the state. Centennial narrowly edged out a 10-9 victory. The journey to the state championship was no less dramatic, with the team securing victories in its toughest playoff challenges against Wakeland in the Regional Quarterfinals and a rematch against Independence in the Regional Finals.
“When we won Regionals, I knew we had a great chance to win back-to-back state titles,” Coach Douglas Fair said. “I was so impressed with how so many of our kids worked hard over the summer to prepare themselves for the fall season.” Coach Fair stated as he emphasized his team’s preparation and determination throughout the season. “They came back from break looking like a better version of themselves than they were when school ended. Their desire to repeat as state champions was evident in the work they put in at our practices and matches.”
This latest championship adds another trophy to the school’s already impressive collection and cements Centennial’s status as a formidable force in the 5A division. With a strong foundation and determination, the Centennial High School tennis team continues to inspire and set the bar for excellence in high school sports.
“Winning is great, but athletes can only control part of the winning. Efforts and energy are two parts of athletics that are 100% controllable.” Coach Fair said.
Congratulations to the Centennial tennis team for their remarkable achievement of winning state two years in a row and for making their school proud once again.
