FRISCO, TEXAS — Isabella Liu, a senior at Centennial High School, is a shining example of what it means to be a Titan. As the volleyball team manager, vice president of student council, and an officer for the National Honors Society–along with her previous involvement in the National Art Honors Society–Liu continues to leave a lasting impact on the Centennial community and beyond.
Liu’s journey in volleyball took an unexpected turn during her junior year when an ACL tear kept her off the court. However, instead of abandoning volleyball, she wanted to stay connected to the sport she loved. “Around the same time, I became interested in… data science and data-based tech and was really missing playing, so I asked Coach Pearce if I could rejoin but as a manager,” she explained.
Outside of school, Liu is involved in many impactful roles. She is a member of the Youth Entrepreneurs Society, an IT officer and tutor for Citizens of Tomorrow, and co-president of non-profit crocheting organization called Keeping Hearts Warm.
Her role in Citizens of Tomorrow holds special significance. The organization connects American teenagers with Chinese citizens looking to improve their English. As the daughter of Chinese immigrants, Liu saw the organization as a perfect fit to strengthen her ties to her culture while providing meaningful assistance to people in China. “My extended family was really close with each other but since I was the only one raised in the US the language and cultural barrier was really bad,” she shared. “I thought that having these lessons and conversations with Chinese kids learning English would also improve my Chinese and understanding of Chinese culture.”
Looking ahead, Liu has ambitious plans for her future. “I want to major in the data science/statistics area with minors or double majors in computer science and/or business and public policy.” Her goals also include a creative twist: “[I] also want to try social media and become famous. Always wanted to be a vlogger and go on non-toxic reality TV.”
Her experience as a Titan at Centennial has undoubtedly set her up for future success. She shared: “I think our school has a really unique culture that really motivates people to work as hard as they can. Being within it, though cutthroat, has allowed me to become more productive.”
Isabella Liu’s contributions and ambitions reflect the work ethic, drive, and excellence of the Centennial Titans. With her determination and diverse accomplishments, Liu is sure to make a lasting impact wherever her journey takes her.
