FRISCO, TX — Despite the Colorguard’s heavy involvement in Centennial High School, many people still don’t know much about the program and the wonderful people who are in it. Colorguard is one of the many clubs and organizations at Centennial, but what’s different about Colorguard is the amount that they engage with at Centennial, including with the Centennial band, pep rallies, and football games.
Colorguard has been involved at Centennial since 2003, and in that time it has seen so many different personalities. Miss Flores, the Colorguard teacher, says “I knew teaching Colorguard would never be easy, but it was exactly what I wanted to do,” she said. “The reward comes from seeing how much each member grows, both in skill and as an individual.”
The Colorguard members train in many different ways, spinning rifles, flags, and sabers to create visually engaging scenes. They compete in competitions locally and regionally. Beyond competing and developing their skills, students gain lasting life experiences like lessons in teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence.
As the program continues to evolve, Miss Flores is excited to help students grow and facilitate bonds among its members.“All of us have created a close bond with each other,” said Aashna Gantaram, a freshman in Colorguard.
Colorguard’s presence in Centennial High School has and will have a lasting impression on not only students who watch their performance, but also the performers themselves.
