The attack on Pearl Harbor occurred 76 years ago on Dec. 7, 1941. The death total reached 2,403 with another 1,173 injured.This event led the United States into World War II.
Although National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is not a federal holiday, it is commemorated across America. One common way to honor those who died is to hang the American flag at a half-staff until sunset in order to honor those who died due to the attack.
