FRISCO, TEXAS ーSpotify is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its annual music recap. In 2015, the streaming service debuted the feature, calling it Spotify Yearly Music. A year later, the company changed its name to what its followers know it as today: Spotify Wrapped. The name change wasn’t the only alteration; shareable graphics were also added, which made its popularity skyrocket.

In December, Spotify releases its annual recap of listeners’ most frequently played songs, albums, podcasts, and more. It not only presents the user’s favorites but also gives insight into various statistics, such as the user’s number of minutes listened, top genres, and listening age. 

At the start of every year, enthusiasts begin building their music portfolio in anticipation of the annual report. Following its release, Spotify members worldwide repost and compare their results on social media platforms, becoming especially popular on TikTok. 

An additional feature that began this year is a listener’s global ranking of their top artist. Typically, Spotify requires that a user must listen to an artist’s music 15 or more times in the last 28 days. 

However, there isn’t necessarily a fixed number of listens to be a superfan.

“I listened to 100,030 minutes of Role Model this year according to Spotify Wrapped, therefore making me the #7 top listener to his music globally!” shared junior Riley Zhao.

Regardless of the outcome, Spotify Wrapped is a great way to for people to reflect on their music habits throughout the year and relive the memories that music brings.
