FRISCO, TEXASー HOSA is a student-led organization where people compete, test, and learn for their futures.

HOSA is dedicated to promoting the variety of jobs in the healthcare industry, such as nursing, sports medicine, medical research, and public health. Members watch doctors and hospital emergency drills.

As a student-led organization, HOSA enables students to develop leadership skills by providing a space for members to work together. Aditi Iyer is the president and Ishee Sreedhara is the vice president of the HOSA club for the 2025-2026 school year. They are the students who run the club, plan the meetings and represent the schools HOSA club.

The big thing that HOSA is known for is its competitions, where students test their knowledge and understanding of many healthcare topics against peers from different schools. The competition consists of written tests, team competitions, and presentations that students participate in.

Sophomore Nicole Thielmeier shared, “I was influenced to be in this club because my mom came from another country, and healthcare wasn’t as accessible.”

HOSA isn’t just a newly formed club from Centennial. Since 1976, thousands of HOSA chapters have been formed and are active in high schools around the world. The Titan Theatre’s director, Darius Moore. Mr. Moore mentioned that he actively participated in HOSA when he was younger.

“Hosa is the organization for all of the people who are interested in the medical field, and what the medical field has to offer in various capacities, and compete in activities and competitions that will make them better in the medical field,” Moore shared

Many students believe that HOSA is impactful and necessary for achieving their goals. Teachers like the students’ passion and appreciate the students’ drive to do it as their career.

HOSA online testing recently happened on Nov. 19. During this test, students compete in events, and it serves as a competition for certain health science events. Students take this test to see who will go and compete in Area. They’re usually held during late winter.

When members are not competing, they are able to participate in the multiple events that HOSA has planned. The most popular and recent one was the annual blood drive partnered with Carter Blood Care last week. This was an event for the students to donate their blood so that it could go to clinics and patients who desperately need it. Officer Kolate gives his perspective on the event.

“The blood that we donate to the offices, there are a lot of people around that need blood. I’d say blood thinners are able to help up to three people per pint, and this can go into saving many people’s lives. It helps people when they get into car accidents, from blood transfusions or any other serious accident they may face.”
